About the Designer

The Beginning

HOME 3

Adisa Imani Christopher was born in Phoenix, Arizona. Just as a baby, her family relocated back to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands where she was then raised. She was always finding ways to express her creativity. She enjoyed art, whether it was drawing or sculpting. She took her first sewing class at the age of 9 and hated it, her final dress was something not appealing to the eyes. At age 12, in junior high school she took another sewing class. This time she really liked it and decided to take it to the next level. She started to make her own school uniforms and her peers loved her designs so they wanted one too. Not too long after she made her first uniform, she got bored and started to create skirts, blouses, and shorts. She would make these for herself, her two sisters, and several friends and would all go out to events together. They called themselves the “walking business cards”, but it worked. Her clientele started building up rapidly. She was now the go-to girl for custom made designs.

In 2007 she decided to step up and make gowns. She created her first gown which was black crepe back satin with black and gold beaded lace. She and everyone else fell in love with the gown. By prom 2008, she made 7 dresses including her own, and several other cocktail dresses for their other senior events. In October of that year she moved to New york City where she began college and later on received her Associate’s Degree in Fashion Design. Within her two years of school she worked as a seamstress for several designers, did several internships to include Brooks Brothers, and worked doing freelance, where she would travel back and forth to St. Croix to create dresses for prom, weddings, and school uniforms.

Adisa is now the owner of her clothing line, AdianiC, founded in 2008, but Established in 2010, and has now
